Updating tackle, need your suggestions. - 08/12/15 04:41 PM

I'm a semi newbie who's been out of the fishing loop for a bit.. Going to start making more time to get out and enjoy the sport again. I'm wanting to update my tackle and looking for suggestions. Whats your go-to set up, what do you never leave the house without? Any lures or jigs that you have the most confidence in? any and all suggestions are welcome. Probably will hit up academy or gander mtn this weekend to grab a couple things.

I fish off banks for bass mostly, sometimes privileged enough to be in deeper water on a boat looking for sandies or crappie. Any temp or season.

Thanks for looking!

I have at last count, 34 go-to set ups. I would suggest a good spinning combo with about 12 lb Fluro. Smaller plastic worms, light jigs, and topwater, shallow running and medium running crankbaits. Can's go wrong in shad or bluegill or crawfish colors. Small Spinnerbaits like beetle spins and 1/4 oz chartreuse, chartruese and blue, and white in color.

I am old school and have been using the same baits and tackle for 50 years or more. You are close to my house between Ponder/Justin and are welcome to drop by any time. I have a wealth of info. to share with those that will listen on what must go into a lure and I will help you get those lined out. There are only a few that I build; but can take most any spinner bait, spook or jig and turn them into the best baits in your tackle box.

You may PM. me or call: 432-553-1874

Are you fishing for bass?
If so, these are my top three recommendations for doing more bank fishing (all available at Wmart)

5 inch stick worms with or without a small split shot weight above the hook--yum dinger, yamamoto senko, and strike king shimesticks. You can rig these Trig style on a 2/0 worm hook or wacky on size 1 or size 2 octopus hooks or bait hooks

1/4 oz rattle trap--gold for cloudy days and silver blue back for sunny days

1/4 oz beetle spin--experiment with small curly tail and boot tail grubs as trailers instead of the trailer it comes with.

Listen to what Donald has to say, just don't touch his lure scent or you'll be smelling it for days.
