Speed question

I bought an 09 21I w/Vmax series 2. 25 pitch prop. GPS'd 67 the other day. Plenty fast for me since I usually only run 40-45. Does 67 sound about right? Only reason I ask is for outrunning others to spots in tourneys.

You left out only the most important part, what size engine?

Two things I have found that will help your speed on the 21i series with a 250 is:
- Have a spare prop. to send in and keep having it tweaked. Have the blade turned some. Have the blade cupped some.
- Having a hydraulic Jack plate allows you to bump it down a tad when at full throttle to get a tiny bit of more bite.

I have a new 25 pitch that was for my 21i's. Nothing has been done to it. I now have a 225 SHO. motor the prop. will fit but does not perform properly. If you are interested in it let me know.

If I had that boat and motor, I would be disappointed with anything under 70mph.

Forgot to mention it has a gator hull. The 67 was also fully loaded my son and I and full tanks.

You should be running about 70mph. May want to check the jackplate height.

I don't believe that the I class was their fastest hull design. With two adults, gear, and full tanks, 67 might be about it without really spending the money to fine tune it.

- have you set your boat up (speed/rpms/prop height/water psi @ WOT) to perform at it's maximum efficiency, according to how you normally fish (light/heavy load)?
- what were your rpm's at 67 mph and was that WOT?
- how's your hole shot?
- with the right setup I would expect at least low 70's on good days.

I have an '08 20i and I have GPS'd 73 mph with two people and half tanks with a full load of tackle. Saying the 20i is not Skeeter's fastest hull design may be true, but it sure ain't slow!!! Running 67 mph with a 21i means you're motor set-up could use a tweak or two to get some more mph. The 21i already has a jackplate on it so taking a few measurements at the back will let you know which way to go. Good Luck you'll get more out of it!

If you start messing with that manual jack plate be sure to write everything down and make your mark on the jack plate where it is set now and every time you move it. It only takes 1/8 of a inch down to make a difference. Down is where I would start 1/8 inch. It is a ton of trouble because of the loading and unloading it takes two people; one to drive the truck and one to run the boat. Always use the GPS speed on the depth finder and do it all on one day, that the lake is calm.

After getting the plate set at the best height that the prop. will do then you can start on the prop.. Sending it over to the prop. place of your choice to make sure each blade is as clean as possible. Talking to them about the speed of the boat and how much cup to put in each blade. Be sure to discuss the return visits it they don't solve the problem on the first one.
