Just go by Academy or other retailer who sells them. Do you have your expired license? If so, just take that with you. Or memorize you driver's license number and go in and give it to the cashier. You're already in TP&WD's puter so either method will work.

They can even look you up by your last name and address.

I saw a fella get picked up one time in WM by the local authorities. The cashier and manager kept stalling for about 15 minutes while he, and several others behind him, were waiting to get a fishing or hunting license. I don't know what popped up on the screen when they scanned his driver's license, but I'm guessing it wasn't very good.

I've seen them do that at the tax-assessor/collector's office, but they only had to stall for maybe 1-2 mins before a couple dudes walked up and cuffed 'em. Of course it helps if you have a ton of LE in the building.

I'll bet the guy you saw go down had warrant(s). bad ones.

If you don't have a DL then you'll probably need a Texas ID card. I had to get one for my son, after he was caught by the GW without a pictured ID.

Re: can you renew your fishing license if you Drivers License is expired? - 01/25/11 11:06 PM

It depends on the clerk. Clerks are supposed to ask for valid ID. Is an expired license a valid ID? Some could care less while others will not issue a license. The same applies to cashing a check. In all the hundreds of licenses I issued I never got a terminal message telling me a warrant was issued. There is no place in the screen format for that, so it must be a special screen. I too wonder what popped up to notify the clerk to stall for the police.

I did this year at Walmart. I did not realize it at the time, as I never really pay attention to my DL. My DL expired 8/6/2010. I bought the Fishing license the last day of August. They didn't even ask about it.

I highly doubt your Academy or WalMart cashier is going to notice that your license is expired, and they're even less likely to care.

An expired license is not a valid id if someone wants to get ugly with you.

All you have to do is show em your old fishing license and they will renew it. They've never asked me for a DL.

if you renewed your dl then if they ask you can show them the paper lic that they give you or did you do it online if so don't know but i would think it shouldn't matter if your dl is expired or not to get a fishing lic all they do is take it and scan it in the computer and the info is transferred to the state computer should show up valid id same thing if you get stopped with the expired dl if you renewed when the police scan the lic it will show up valid id expires such and such date so should not be a problem

Im 25 and tried buying a can of snuff, got carded and the lady wouldnt sell it to me due to my liecnce being expired, had paper work shpowing I had renewed and everything. sent my wife into the store to buy it, the old lady(nice way of putting it) still wouldnt sell it to her. I was very grouchy after that. It all depends on the clerk

Yes, a friend of mine had been given a check for some work he done. Went to the payee's bank with his license that expired two days earlier and they would not cash it because, of an expired license.

Re: can you renew your fishing license if you Drivers License is expired? - 01/26/11 06:35 PM

In the two examples above the clerk could actually go to jail. Though it's not against the law to sell to someone with an invalid ID, if it turned out that you were not eligible to purchase the tobacco (i.e. you were under age) or the check was not yours the clerk would not be covered if they accepted an expired driver's license as ID. It's the same with alcohol. If a minor presents you with a fake ID that looks valid you're still covered. But, if you sell to a minor based on an invalid or expired ID you're in big trouble. The TABC and BATF actually run stings using these very same scenarios to catch places selling to minors. Since the purpose of seeing your ID for a fishing license is simply to establish residency and there really aren't any criminal consequenses for selling a fishing license they are usually quite a bit more lenient. However, if some clerk is having a bad day and wants to throw their weight around a little they could refuse to sell it.

It took almost 2 months for my renewed DL (did it online) to show up in the mail. I drove across the country with a piece of paper saying it was my temp, but only good for about 45 days??

Austin is super slow....

Academy gal asked for my DL when I got mine.

It also depend on who is servicing you. Some are cool and understand the situation and some just dont give a [censored].

A while back my dad moved here and he still have an out of state license so this one guy was charging him out-of-state 1 year license fee. We went to a different location and this nice guy asked for the address he was staying at and charged him normal fee.

rule book says you must have a valid id on you at all times when hunting or fishing. They don't care witch and will site you for not having it. Don't need it to buy it I don't think but don't get caught fishing without it..
