How many poles are you allowed to use? - 04/27/10 11:37 PM
I have yet to fish in Texas, I am wondering how many rods and reels you are allowed to use. In Ohio you can use 2, in Colorado you can use 1 unless you buy an extra rod stamp. Is there any special regs here in Texas. I looked in the handbook, but didn't see anything. Thanks for the help guys.

I think different locations have their own limits but I have never seen less than two. Go to Sea Wolf park on the pier. I have seen people trying to work 6 poles by themself. I saw one family pulling a cart with more poles than I have on my pole rack at home. I have an 18 slot rack and it's full.

Thanks for the info. I usually don't use more than 2 anyway. Can be hard at times.

I take one pole to use and a back up incase something happens to my first pole. I'll take two to Galveston so I can let one sit with a circle hook and work one in and out.

Scott, don't be a yankin' on the lad's chain LOL!
Hoff, the answer is...depends on what you're fishing for. Best and safest thing to do is go to Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept's. website and look at the regs. Just google tpwd.

Scott's right the general regulation is 100 hooks per person. City Lakes and some state parks there are limits on the number of poles used.

Holy carp! I better take a whole bunch of boxes outta the boat. I must have thousands, and that's just the ones attached to lures.

You know what I mean, you can only have 100 hooks in the water at a time "fishing".

Scott's right, yes as many poles as you would like but you are limited to 100 hooks in the water at a time.

When I fish at night for crappie and whites I'll put out 8 rods.

100 hooks in any combination is a regulation a lot of
people don't know about.
If you have out a trotline with 100hooks , you can
not legaly fish with rodnreel.
Not sure if a treble is one or three. Never considered
that.

treble is 1.
I typically fish with between 2 and 8 catfishing.

In Texas as many poles as you can get out. Colorado 1 and you can purchase a 2nd Pole License to fish a 2nd pole.

I know at some spillways you can be limited to the amount of rods you can have. At Millwood in Arkansas you can only fish with 2 rods, from the buoy to the dam.I'm not sure if Texas may have that at certain spillways.

If you are fishing at a community fishing pond, you are only allowed 2 poles. It's on the TPWD website and the handbook.
