Cane Poles for Crappie and Catfish

Cane Poles for Crappie and Catfish - 02/28/18 02:54 AM

This spring, I want to get back into fishing cane poles from an older bathtub boat that I have. In the past, I've simply used 14 lb mono wrapped the length of the pole, trough the eye and then a simple hook, split shots and thin bobber. I've had decent luck but feel like there are some steps that I could take to increase my odds when fishing this method. Anyone have any tips for cane (fiberglass) pole fishing that they care to share?

I remember when you could buy a 3-piece, cane pole complete with metal furells and fishing line. I bet there's somewhere you can still buy them.

fish I grew up using a single piece 10ft cane pole with a haddock block on top to secure it to the pier. Used minnows for cats, crappie and large mouth bass. Best fish was a 5lb bass. I used them for years till they finally got brittle.

It's hard to beat them. Easy, use very little line and quick.
