We use to have one at my dads tank. The catfish will get trained, like deer at a feeder. They will learn when it goes off and show up. If you fish at that time catch one fish and they leave till next feeding. Our fish were trained at one time when we would walk across the dock they would start coming up. We also used a floating ring at of PVC for the food to land in. They would come up like a vacuum cleaner and eat graeat site to see.

Will help bream and catfish, not much effect on others...except grass carp and Tilapia which will eat fish food over vegetation, defeating the purpose. Do not use rabbit food. Use a fish food formulation with preferably over 30% protein. Tractor Supply sells a couple of good ones.

The downsides are water quality issues and trained fish....not to mention the challenges with critters.

I spoke to a dock owner on Fork who fed them. He fed them while I sat in my boat and the catfish came up and were going crazy but he told me the same thing that Whnigt said. If you catch one they will all disappear.

I've seen those PVC square floating around some docks and always wondered what they were.

I had one on my dock but took it down. So many turtles showed up and never left.

there is a trick to catching surfacing catfish. fish the edge , when you hook one , let it
swim away from the school. Lead it to the backside of the dock and use a long dip net.

If you never let it splash on the surface , it will not spook the others. I used to do this with a fly rod. Channel cat seem to like the " orange comet " pattern.

good luck
