So my little family and another are camping at Stella mare in Galveston this weekend. My wife "generously" gave me Saturday morning August the 12th to get my fishing fix. I have no experience in Galveston. I do my fair share of bass fishing up here in DFW and have done surf, bay and kayak fishing in Port Aransas. I have gear so I would really appreciate even some salty fish lover to give me a tip or two where some decent fishing would be that day. I'm not picky about what fish as long as it is not hard heads or gaftops. Can fish bay or surf, no yak this trip and prefer to stay off the piers. I'd be happy to trade for honey holes here in dfw!

If the wind is relatively calm and the water is relatively clear, try the surf at dawn. I prefer the beachfront closer to the west end of the island. You can get live shrimp at the Sea Isle marina or a few miles to the west at the Rusty Hook. I like to fish anywhere from the Sea Isle beach access to the water tower near the western tip of the island. If the surf is too rough or dirty, you can access the bay at 8-mile road, which is right where you are staying, or at the State Park a little to the west, or at the Sea Isle fishing pier (you need a pass to get on the pier, but can park there and access the bay without the pass). Some like to fish at San Luis Pass, but I have not had much luck there. You also need to be very careful if you go to the pass due to the strong currents.

Thank you! I was looking at fishing San Luis but it seems sketchy!

Sketchy or deadly, not sure which is more accurate. There is also a bait stand located on the western end of Jamaica Beach subdivision which usually has live shrimp, but as I recall their hours are a little more restricted than the Rusty Hook or the Sea Isle marina.
