My 83yr old Grandpa bought a boat and condo in Rockport. I am new to Rockport fishing. I can catch fish if I can FIND them. FINDING them has been the issue there. I just don't know the area well enough. Anyway we've been 3 times now last weekend most recent and have yet to catch a keeper trout. Plenty of 12-14's last weekend. Also zero reds so far in 3 trips. I know the reds are heating up and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on types of areas to try for redfish. I know I can catch Bull Reds at the Jetty's but would rather find fish in the bay.

His boat won't go in the flats it's a 21 ft nautic star w tunnel/jackplate. So I need help figuring out what types of structure to try for reds that's not supershallow. Any advice on fall tactics for locating reds would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to pm if you don't want it out here in the forum. I'm not necessarily asking for your fishing hole (unless you want to tell me) just general info. Any specific info you PM I'll gladly return the report on what we saw and caught or didn't catch. Info is a 2 way street.

Does he have a trolling motor? If so work the grass (reeds) shore lines early in the morning like you would bass. Before you pull up on those shore lines use a good pair of binoculars to see if there is any activity. If not, keep moving until you find some. Also, look for birds. If you can make it out to St jo's fish the inlets and outlets to the flats (use google earth and you will se what I'm talking about)...just be sure the tide has the water moving through them. If the water is still you aren't going to catch much. Google earth is how I found most of the cuts for getting into certain areas...it is your friend. A good chart of the area is also handy. Of course all of this is tide dependent.
