I needed to get some time on the sand this past weekend. It was about a month since my last fishing trip and I needed to get some submissions for the Drum Master's tournament. Although there was rain in the forecast, I decided to tough it out. Friday night was pretty slow but I was not in a good spot. I could not see the surf in the dark and finally I just settled on spot that only produced one small sandbar shark. Saturday, I relocated a few miles down the beach to a nice looking spot where I found some underwater structure. As soon as I got all of my rods set up, the rain came and kept me in the cover of my Jeep for about 30 minutes. Normally, I fish in the rain but the lighting was pretty bad. After the storm, the bite was on!! My daughter and I were averaging a fish on about every 30 minutes. We fished from about 11am to about 1am and caught small sandbar sharks and bull reds all day and night. Night fishing was miserable since there was no wind. No wind = TONS of bugs and mosquitoes. You could barely breathe with swallowing bugs.

I was using squid and fishbites on my bait rod and crabs, croaker, whiting and mullet on other rods. The bait rod produced small black drum, croaker, hardheads and gafftop all day with every cast. Sharks were hitting the croaker while I was reeling them in and there were many that were cut in half when I got them in. The big rods were only getting steady bites in the first gut. Rods that were casted further were mostly catching large gafftop and would sit untouched for awhile. All of the bull reds and sharks we caught were caught on cut bait. We caught nothing on crab. Tons of mullet and bait fish in the surf. Here are a few pics
