No Bueno! Caught some nice blacktip.. For the grill! No signs of tarpon!? Overall pretty much waste of $$$. Conditions were not good with southwest wind. Gulf was not friendly to us.. Really churned up.. Will definitely do it again! Our guide was working his tail off to get some action so not really his fault?! I got some good shark steaks for the grill

Ledeez,

I took a trip with Mike years ago... maybe 6 or 7 years ago. The trip was "fun". Caught a lot of blacktips, but not a sign of a Tarpon. I left the trip less than impressed with Mike as a tarpon guide. Funny guy, we had lots of laughs, but i wouldn't do it again, at least not with Mike.

you can catch tarpon at Galveston?

Not being smart, I just never thought there were tarpons in that area.

I am salt life though.

Mike Williams has been doing it longer than anyone in the state. I know some don't like him for various reasons but give the devil his due he is one of the very best.
I went to Florida and fished with a guide two days, cost $600 a day we got one hook up and failed to land it. He estimated the fish to go 175#. Was it worth it to spend over $3000 for two days, yep but if I had it to do over I'd go to Galveston and fish with Mike Williams

Clients or I have landed eight state record fish and eighteen water body records.

I've heard but never experienced that you can occasionally catch tarpon off the piers and jetties in Galveston and Sunnyside.

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Sixty - seventy years ago Galveston was a tarpon fishing mecca. For a variety of reasons the tarpon fishery died out. Now it is coming back, albeit slowly. Like everything in nature, it runs in cycles. Galveston, POC, and PA all have tarpon guides now, and as the fishery improves there will be more. But they are there. The fishery isn't like south Florida, but in the summer months those who pay their dues can catch tarpon in Texas. Hopefully I can do so soon; I haven't caught one since I moved here from Miami in 1972.
