Planning on fishing the jetties within the next month or so. I am just a freshwater fisherman this will be my first attempt. I have a capable boat, equipment, net, bait tank ect. Just wanting some general info, where to launch, what bait to use, and any safety suggestions I may need. Not targeting any specific species... just want to have fun, and have the rod bend. Thanks in advance.

Live bait use live shrimp or finger mullet, croaker if available. Launch out of the Galveston Yacht basin. Fish close to the boat cut, as close as you can safely anchor and stay out of the traffic lane, fish on a tide change and fish on the side the tide is flowing to, IE: if the tide is flowing in (East to West at the cut) Fish on the West side just at the current break line. Watch for bait and use what's present, you will probably even be able to cast net some bait if it is present. Fish under a popping cork or Carolina rig on the bottom but fish as close to the current break and/or rocks as possible.
You could catch anything from specks to reds and flounder, black drum to sharks, tourist trout (Hardheads) to Spanish macks (Late summer) depending on conditions and time of year you are there.
