Me and some friends are headed to Lake Calcaseiu around Thanksgiving. We are all coaches, so this is the first chance we have to all fish together since the summertime. We have never been to Calcassieu, but have heard awesome things! Does anyone have any information, tips, suggestions that might point us in the right direction. Anything is welcome, places to eat, safety suggestions, navigating, etc! Thanks for the information!!! We are ready for the trip!

check with Dickie Colburn's website Sabineconnection.com for fishing report info and a phone number. He been guiding on Sabine and Calcasieu lakes forever and can probably help you.

Typically the fish are on the north end that time of the year. Look up Turner bay(north Lake Calcaseiu). There is a good launch just up the river from there making it a short boat ride.

Good info, thanks for the input. Keep it coming, like I said, this whole thing is a guessing game for us at this point!

Hey, if things get tough or too windy on Calcasieu lake, you can always fish the Calcasieu river for some nice bass. The BASS Elites caught some good ones from there.

As far as Navigating goes, what do we need to be on the lookout for?

The trout have been moving back north in Lake Calcasieu, and as far north as Lake Charles. Be careful in Turners a lot of well heads and rigs in that area. The navionics web app has some of them marked well or you can use the app on your phone. It can be really helpful. This time of year i like to use topwater baits like super spooks and skitter walks. Some days they like slow sinking suspending baits like mirrodines or corkys.
