Headed down this week. Never been before. Anybody familiar with the area? Recommended bait shops or fishing spots or techniques. Gonna mainly hit the surf for reds sharks an Spanish macs. Would like to find some flounder or sheepshead though. Won't have a boat.

Going into Surfside on 288, you'll have several bait shops to buy from just before you cross the causeway. I like RodBenders, last one on the right.

Cross the causeway, hang a left on Bluewater Highway and you'll have your choice of surf to fish for 10-12 miles. If you pull in Entrance #4 and head either direction, you're in some good water.

I fished 2 Sunday's ago before Church, tossed out finger mullet into the second gut. I had a shark hit a big piece of ladyfish (10" long) that tail whipped me and cut me off, then had a good pull on the other rod with mullet but no hookup, then caught a blacktip in the 3.5' range. All of this in about 45 minutes. I went back this last Sunday in the afternoon, no action on whole mullet for 2 hours, decided to cut one up and the bites started coming. In 30 minutes I had a 28" red, a gigantic ladyfish that's now in the freezer for shark bait and a sand trout.

Be careful wading, the bars are all jacked up from the change of the surf direction (I guess). You can step off in holes/edges that drop 2' in one step and the current was very strong. I'm wading to the first bar I think (waist deep after going chest deep in the gut), and tossing into the middle of the next gut. It's not like I'm used to where you have a wade gut, first bar, first gut, second bar etc. It's like they've all moved in a lot closer to shore and they're jagged. It's creating some good turbulence and the bait is there most of the time.

About 6 oz of lead, double drop with 5/0 circle hooks for the reds, 8+ oz of lead, single 9/0 circle hook for the shark. Ladyfish or stingray for the sharks, mullet for the reds. Lots of current and seaweed this past Sunday that made it a challenge. For reference, it's about 75 yards off shore where I'm fishing. I'm heading back this evening after work.

Keep the Lord in your heart and keep your powder dry.

Where is Entrance #4? Is it the same as Yucca ave? And is it possible to find the different beach access #s via google maps? I've tried searching but the only result that comes up is the small "Beach Rd" street.

Both access 4 & 5 are identified with sign on the roads at each entry. thumb
