Howdy, I'm going to be in Galveston (San Louis Pass area) the 2nd week of August and was looking for pointers for fishing from the surf, my rod/reel set up is a Daiwa saltist 40 on a 12' pro angler, I'm going to target reds & specks, I also want to take some lighter gear and throw lures while I'm waiting, so any suggestions would be awesome

Hi Daniel, I've always just used a popping cork with live shrimp. Usually walk out to the second sand bar and toss it out. We used to catch a lot of specks that way but the past few years we just haven't been able to find them. Also, throwing a gold/copper spoon has produced fish for me in the past. Keep in mind I'm fishing the Corpus Christi area. Good luck out there!
