So this flesh eating bacteria, is it worse this year or is it pretty much always down there and is getting more publicity because of social media? I have a trip scheduled in mid July, just wondering what local guys take on it is

Not one word has been said about it!? play at your own risk... That's everyday life..? Beach is packed here! If folks are worried don't do it.. Go to the zoo and hope a lion does not escape and eat everyone.. Or don't forget to look both ways when crossing the street someone may hit you?! It's a risk danger is part of life... I tell you this we are hitn the surf for some shark action this afternoon! Hopefully we don't get attacked by one! Again play play at your own risk!

Got you. That was kind of my feeling on it too. I'm just not from around there and have kids. Wanted to make sure it wasn't some abnormal thing going on down there. Thanks for the reply

If worried about this type stuff, cover any open wounds with neosporin and band aid or better yet liquid band aid stuff, two coats & once dry do the neo and band aid, or Vaseline and watch for early sighs of infection.

Don't know if more this year, or more attention paid to it on the wwww.

Most cases come from those with compromised immune systems, diabetic, things of that nature. Yes it's a possibility but millions of folks play in the SW water every day and nothing happens to them, so it's a small one.

Just watch for signs w/any open wounds, and if someone is medically in a way like above consider not going in the water. Best you can do when down there.

Have a great time.

With the surf so crowded how do you keep you lines out of the way... I normally just wade out and fish for trout specs and lady fish with jigs and top water but want to take the big rods for shark and reds. We are going the last week of July.

best time to hit the surf w/ the big rods is go in the late afternoon and on a weekday not on the weekend. You should have no problem. Drive until you see working birds
