You know, for as long I can remember, we haven't had a February like this in many years. I know we are still due for some cold weather, but I believe these systems will blow in and out only lasting a day. Because most of our fronts this year have been Pacific fronts, it hasn't seemed to change the attitude of the fish.

With our water levels staying in a summertime type pattern, instead of dropping off to winter lows, this has allowed fish to continue their normal feeding patterns and remain safely in our marsh lakes. With the abundance of bait fish holding in these areas, trout and redfish will not leave.

Yes, this month as most people know, starts our big trout season on the Middle Texas Coast. Although a few big fish will be caught this month, I have always believed our best trout months to be March through early May. Don't get me wrong, every trip this month I will be hoping for a big girl.

If we can keep getting 4-5 days that warm into the upper 60's even low 70's between these fronts February could be one for the books. With Cedar Bayou working in full swing, I see some great days of fishing ahead, especially as our fish start to stage for the spring spawn.
