Welp, it's finally almost here.. myself and several of my best buds are fixin' to head down to Big Lake to get in on some of that famous action. We are staying at L'Auberge Casino Resort, and fishin' one day and playing golf the next. I really can't express how excited I am... fishing, gambling, beer, golf, football on tv... oh my.
We got a guide from Hackberry, which I hear is the top notch guide service. I expect to catch trout, reds, flounder, maybe some Tripletail?
I've never been before. Anyone been? Know what to expect? Good restaurants/bars to hit? Did ya hammer the fish?

Calcasieu always produced more reds than any other. I fished there when I was at Fort Polk, LA and Hackberry is where we put in our boats. I always found it a bit easier to catch fish there than in the Galveston bay complex. I'm guessing that would be due to not being an hour's drive from 5 million people. In April of 2006 I went out with a buddy and caught more reds than I could possibly count. The crazy fact for the day was that I boated a keeper sized red on each of my first 7 casts! We certainly left with our limit and sore shoulders. Good luck.
