Took off work last week and went down to my South Texas hunting camp with my two nephews and oldest daughter to fish. I had never organized a fishing trip from the camp, so I gave it a shot. On Wednesday we went to Baffin Bay in the afternoon to test out my boat. Whew it was bad windy and nearly blew us back to Tomball. I decided to check out Corpus on Thursday and we went back there Friday and Saturday too. We put in at Billings and explored upper Laguna Madre and CC Bay the best we could in a 15 footer and a 25hp. Yes, it was a little daunting with all the $50-60k flats boats zooming around but I got used to it. I just stayed out of their way

What a beautiful area and we had a blast! We got in the water late on Thursday (11am) and Friday (730am). We didn't catch any keepers Thursday, but caught two nice flounders on Friday and several small trout that were too small. We took the flounder fillets to Docs and had a late lunch overlooking the water. Now convinced we needed to beat the sun, on Saturday we got up at 3am and put in for 5am to start fishing before sunrise. We made or way up the Intercostal and our first spot didn't pay off with any keepers, so we moved to the shell islands pon the west side of the entrance to CC bay. We wade fished and drifted all around there learning more about the area. We caught 7 or 8 dink trout, one keeper trout and 3 flounder. We used only artificial bait on Saturday, as I got tired of messing with live shrimp. My youngest nephew must have caught 25 or 30 pin fish and other assorted junk on them Thursday and Friday

It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to get over to Billings Bait from the camp in Duval County and we are now hooked on Corpus fishing. I hope to make the trip many more times! Can't wait for the fall!

Sounds like a great trip! Artificial is definitely the way to go this time of year because of all the trash fish that will steal live bait.

Looks like you had some fun and enjoyed the majesty of nature - the fish are always the bonus. Keep up the good work.
