My wife and I are stationed at Fort Carson, CO and for the past 3 years my parents have rented a house in Rockport for our annual trips back home to TX. This is the first time that oldest two will have the endurance and the skills to really get after it for a few hours at a time. I would really like to get them on some croaker like my father and family did for me when I was a kid, but I've been gone for so long, I'm really out of the loop when it comes to inshore. I was never an expert inshore angler, but I knew enough to catch my targeted species about 50% of the time. Sometimes keepers; sometimes not. If I could get some general direction to from some of you who know the bays best, I would really appreciate it. Thanks yall!

Get some croaker from the bait stand, find a shell reef and catch some nice trout with them.
Your kids will have a blast !

Can't speak for Rockport but we've always caught them in the Galveston surf on bits of dead shrimp. I'm sure you can catch them in the bay as well. You can probably use fishbites so that your kids don't have to rebait every time. The pinfish can get annoying.
