Hey all, looking for some insight. I've never set foot in Texas in my life and now, as it happens, my job may be transferring me there. Currently I live in Pensacola so I've been fishing the gulf for a few years now but don't know much about the waters west of Gulf Shores, AL. The area is be moving to is Houston and when we fish it would be out of Galveston. I have a 31 Contender with twin 300s so range isn't too much of an issue I hope. Main question is what kind of depth of water is out around the rigs and what's the usual haul? Should I expect the usual bottom fishing around the rigs? Am I going to have to run out a decent distance to find some tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and billfish? Just trying to get an idea of what the situation will be. Anything helps!

Welcome to Texas.

First ...... I think you would be better off fishing out of Freeport than Galveston .... for several reasons, one of which it will be a shorter run for the pelagics you named.

Second .... the water is not near as nice here as in Pensacola .... sorry. Deep water is much closer to Pensacola and Gulf Shores. But fishing is good in the gulf here.

Another thing .... go to 2coolfishing.com and make yourself known on the "Bluewater Board". You'll meets lots of people and get all the info you never wanted. wink
