I have been looking at running down to Port Aransas and going out on a 24hr trip.
I see Deep Sea Headquarters has a 24 hr trip on Saturdays and currently doing 2 a month chasing tuna behind shrimp boats.
Anyone been on these and how was the fishing?

If you go to their site you can see dated photos on recent and past catches. It may give you an idea of how much they are catching.

On a side note, be sure the captain is targeting tuna. NOT vermilion snapper.

I have looked at their site and called them, they will bottom fish at night and at first light chase Tuna behind the shrimpers.
Just wanted to see if anyone had any first hand expierence with these trips.
I have been on other trips with them and had a good time, just not one of these trips.
Thanks

I've been thinking about heading down there too. I've taken several overnights and a 56 hour tuna trip but never a 24hr trip. This actually sounds interesting. Which boat were you contemplating going out with? If you don't want to name drop shoot me a PM.

The Pelican out of Deep Sea Headquarters. I picked it because it leaves Saturday at 7:00PM and returns Sunday at 7:00PM, I can stay Sunday night and drive back Monday.

Well shoot. This Saturday is the last 24 hour trip for them for the rest of the year. I guess I'll have to time it for next year and continue to look for something else.

Bluefin is a good boat with a great crew, I just like the idea of a 24 over the weekend.
How did you do on it the other day lenahorse?

The Pelican has one of the best captains and crew that you will find anywhere. I fish with the guys running the 24 hour trips on a regular basis and can tell you if you don't catch fish it sure won't be because they didn't try.

+1

James is a great captain. He's been smoking the tuna lately.
