My cousin and I are going to be on the New Buccaneer 12 hour trip on September 10th. I have fished with them on a tuna trip last December and a couple of other 12 hour charters. The back of the boat was full so I requested a couple of bow spots, which we got. We will (hopefully) be taking some live pinfish along with us, as well as some frozen cigar minnows or something of the like.
I am bringing along with me my penn 4/0 senators and a couple of lighter Penn/Ugly Stick Tiger Lite combos to target some Kings or Ling. I've never fished for pelagics from a party boat before. Can anyone help me with rigs/baits/depths, etc..? If you could PM me that would be wonderful. Thanks so much for your help!
Also, if anyone else is going on that trip, I'd love to put a face with a name when we get there!
Thanks, Brian

Well, since I am not getting a response, maybe I can let you guys know what I am thinking about doing and then we can go from there.
I am thinking about putting a 12 oz bank sinker on, just like a double dropper rig and then about 2' up from that, tie a three way swivel. Attach my mainline to the swivel and on the third, tie about 4-5' of 30lb flourocarbon leader. Attach that to a small spro swivel with a kingfish rig on that (#4 wire with a double inline treble hook rig) and then put on my live pinfish or frozen cigar minnow. My thinking behind this is to minimize tangles with others and if I am dropping a 12 oz weight from the bow, it should not interfere with other lines under the boat.
The other thought is to just do a simple kingfish rig with about a 1 oz egg sinker on the mainline and chunk it out, and let it drift back in.
All this is based off of the assumption that we will be anchoring from the bow over spots that we are bottom fishing. Thanks for any input.

I can't speak about the party boats up that way but here in Port Aransas the party boats I frequent furnish all terminal tackle whether it be for Beeliners, Kings or whatever. Since you don't know what their game plan will be for the day I'd suggest you just play it by ear. They will take care of you.

Here is what I do: 1. They will target b liner primarily. For b liner I use a Talica or spheres ugly stick combo. I use a heavy sabiki rig or 4 hook chicken rig. With tiny hooks and tiny baits. Drop halfway down and see if you get bit. If not drop down 10 more feet. Do not go all the way to the bottom, the fish will come up to you. When you get a bite let the circle hook work. Do not reel in let more fish hook up and hold on in case an AJ gets hungry.
2. I use a two hook bottom rig with pinfish for grouper. I drop this bait first then if nothing switch to bliner. I use my Talica 2 for that with 80 lb braid and 100lb flouro.
3. I keep another pole available with just a hook or a jig in case you see a ling or Mahi. PM me if you want to learn more or have any questions. I do the tuna trips and load up.

I also always fish from the bow. They do anchor from the front and the first fish hooked on the back tangles everything. You will get tangled which is why having multiple rods minimizes lost fishing time.
