Took my, new to me, Carolina Classic diesel, out of Freeport/Surfside this past Saturday. Plan was to run to Cerveza, looking for Hoo's and dorado and anything else that might bite. Then make some drops for AJ.
78kt mile run and was the first ones there. Set out marauders and rapalas and started trolling around 9:00 am.
We never saw any signs of life. As the day wore on, other boats showed up and also trolled or made drops at the rig. Saw a few endangered snapper hauled in and put back and I think one boat hooked into something but we didn't even get a bump. No trash, no weeds, no bait around at all.
Left there and went to Stetson and stopped at Moxi rig. Plenty of big red snapper there but nothing to keep and nothing on the troll.
Made it to Stetson only to see a huge Hammerhead cruising around. Again, lots of snapper and we did manage a beautiful Queen Triggerfisj that may had been a Texas record but we didn't even know that till today. Of course, we turned it loose thinking we couldn't keep a trigger. But that is on gray trigger. Also caught a few, very small strawberry groupers but so small we let them go too.

At 5:15 pm we headed the boat towards home. Put the Volvo at 3300 roms and set the autopilot. Making 27 kts with 7 people onboard.

I will say that fishing Freeport, for us, is new water and we just could not find fish. However, Surfside Marina is a very nice place that is run with customer service at the forefront. Class joint.
