Hi, I'm new to saltwater fishing and my knowledge is limited.
I'm buying some lures from BassPro and I also wanted to buy replacement hooks for the lures as alot of the reviews recommended changing the hooks as the lure is solid but the hooks are weak.

I'm looking at the VNC hooks made from Perma Steel but there are 2 options in size 4 treble hooks. Which one should I get, the only difference is one is written "4" and the other "4/0"?

Size 4 Quantity 25 Price $7.49

Size 4/0 Quantity 25 Price $16.49

Oh and the lures I'm getting are:
Offshore Angler Lazer Eye Saltwater Series - Lazer Eye Popper - 5.25" - Sardine

Paul Brown's Fat Boy - Silver Chartreuse Tail

D.O.A. Lures The Bait Buster Deep Runner - Pearl Black Back

Heddon Saltwater Super Spook Jr. Hardbaits - Bone/Silver

Let me know what your thoughts are.
Thanks,

Hooks obviously come in a variety of sizes and a 4 and 4/0 are not the same! Hook makers don't even use the same measurements from one brand to another.

If you buy a 4/0 from one company and a 4/0 from another, there are bound to be differences in size at least a little bit. Below is an example of some of the treble hook sizes.

I know what you mean. Its a bummer to pay for a bill dance badonkadonk and help make him richer and have a 35 inch red roll at the boat and straighten a hook. Also, doesent Mirro Lure have a big price and salt following only to use lures which have hooks that rust. Be nice to know what the pros and others in the know use.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

For inshore gamefish like slot reds, trout to 30 inches, and anything in that category, I prefer the number 2's and 3's. (Not the 2/0 3/0) those are too big.

The 4's are ok for trout, and I've done fine with 4's on smaller redfish, but the 27"+ reds can read havoc on tremble hooks... I like the VMC 3's if you find them (not available everywhere). The 2's are good as well.

The fatboy is a no. 4. and the hooks on it should be fine (the are VMC hooks), but if you replace them it will adjust the sink rate (that is ok to do, you just need to know that you are doing it.). Smaller thinner wire hooks will also make the hooks lighter and it will ride higher / sink slower. Bigger hooks make it sink more.

The saltwater spook junior also comes with tinned hooks, no. 4's) and it should be fine in salt with no change.
