Are the oil rigs visible from Galveston island any good for fishing?
Or do you have to go past the horizon to catch fish?

I thought I heard the closest rig was 3 miles out. I guess you can see it from Galveston on a clear day. Many are 4-8 miles out I thought.
Any rig out beyond the breakers is prime structure for big and little fish. They just want structure to hang around and eat bait fish which are drawn to the structure as well.
Some rigs may be in a different area that holds a certain fish steadily but I wouldn't know myself.

My dad was saying you can't fish around some rigs. Is that true.
