Legends and Lies of JC Continues

.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.

THE WEATHE HAS BEEN SUPE NICE SEAS CALM WATER WAY TO WARM FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR SHOULS BE 74 AND IT STILL 80 THE FISH ARE STILL MOVING DOWN FROM UP NORTH WHEN IT GET COLD UP THERE WE SHOULS HAVE SAME GREAT FISHING WHEN THEY ALL START MOVING DOWN

WEATHER: You cant beat this time of year for Cabo weather it is one of the best times of year for coming to Mexico and specifically Cabo San lucas. We have been having day time highs in the low to mid 80,s and the lows at night in the low to mid 60,s. Its really nice and we could even stand for it to get a Little cooler son.

WATER: Its true, the water temperatures are still lingering around 80 degrees and in all reality they should be closer to 73 or 74. This has effected fishing over the last few weeks with good and bad results. The bad is the Dorado bite hasnt been near what it is normally, we had a stretch of fantastic Sail Fish fishing. I looked over the tempbreak map and it was colder in some spots towards the East Cape than on the Pacific side, so anyway who knows whats up. I am sure with this strong El Nino going on the water will stay weird.

BILLFISH: The Marlin fishing has been all over the place, with last week being really good and this week just so so. Not a whole lot of action this past week as it seems the Light House area did have some hook ups and all the way up to the Margarita area was decent. Fish were being landed on Ballyhoo, Live Bait and Lures.

DORADO: We were having 2 great weeks of Dorado fishing and then this week we had a big let down as the action we were seeing has slowed big time. We have seen some Dorados landed but nothing to brag about. There was a few caught in the 25lbs to 35lbs range but not to many.
SWORDFISH: Hasn't heard of any caught this week.

WAHOO: A few decent size Wahoo up and around Grey Rock were caught in the last few days but really nothing major or off the hook. Try using purple Rapalas, these seem to work well.

TUNA: Some Tuna this past week but most were football size fish. San Jamie banks was the area to hunt down the Tuna using king busters. We had 3 days that were very good with 10 to 15 Tuna per day.

INSHORE: Good numbers of Rooster Fish and even Sierra, it has been really good lately and this isnt even normal for this time of year . Normally we see these species in the warmer summer months but it seems they are here early this year. Both are really good fighters offering quite the fight when you hook into one of them. Try live bait for the Rooster Fish from the Solmar to the Pump House. We had one day where we enticed and landed 4 all ranging in the 12 to 16lbs range. Great fighters and lots of fun to catch. Another species we are running into now are the Sierras and those are being taken on Hootchies from the Solmar to the Rancho Migrino area.

From The Admirals Kitchen!
JC,s Baja Seared Scallops!!
Ingredients
1 to 1 1/4 pounds dry sea scallops, approximately 16
2 teaspoons unsalted butter
2 teaspoons olive oil
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Directions
Remove the small side muscle from the scallops, rinse with cold water and thoroughly pat dry.

Add the butter and oil to a 12 to 14-inch saute pan on high heat. Salt and pepper the scallops. Once the fat begins to smoke, gently add the scallops, making sure they are not touching each other. Sear the scallops for 1 1/2 minutes on each side. The scallops should have a 1/4-inch golden crust on each side while still being translucent in the center. Serve immediately.

JC,s Baja Scallop Ceviche
Directions
Toss 1 pound bay scallops, 2 diced green tomatoes, 2 minced shallots, 1/2 minced jalapeno, 1/3 cup lime juice, 3/4 cup orange juice and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt in a glass bowl. Cover and chill, stirring occasionally, 4 to 6 hours. Add salt, pepper and chopped cilantro. Top with sliced avocado.

JC,s Baja Brandy Lemonada!!
Take one pint cheap brandy and ad to a gallon of cheap lemonade. Ad ice to your likening and them on a hot day chug it all down the JC way. As JC says we dont need any panzies in the room. JC does recommend not to drive but if you do don not, I repeat do not drive JC,s 64 Rambler. No one touches that car!!

BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You don't want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking, your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of a fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in the next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report.
