I am looking for a saltwater guide for either bay or off shore fishing sometime later in Oct. I am really open on dates and locations as long as the guide is top notch and will work to put us on some fish. (I have had some bad experiances in the past) I am open from Port Aransas to Galveston. I do not get to the coast very often, so I am not sure what is a good trip this time of year. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are some great guides in both areas. Galveston has better trout fishing with a better quality of fish than PA. There are more redfish in galveston but the technique is typically not shallow flats.

What species are you going after and how do you like to fish?

Capt Steve Hillman in Galveston can put you on both trout and reds
Greg Francis in West Galveston Bay
Brent Juarez is also great but I think he's booked up for Oct.
Capt Steve Soule is a shallow water redfish expert in Galveston

For PA
try Levi Price
Kevin Shaw
or any of the Jay Watkins klan in Rockport
For better trout in that area, Baffin has a great trout population

I really don't care as long as the guide is good and works to put us on fish. I know fishing is fishing and sometimes the fish do not cooperate, I just want to have a good time no matter if the fish are biting or not. The last time I got a guide at the coast I did not ask for recommendations and I had a pretty bad experience. I appreciate the feedback and I will be calling some of these guys to see if they have any dates available.

Any info on offshore, or is the redfish, trout trip the way to go this time of year?

if you want big fish I recommend Mike Williams www.texastarponguides.com some don't like him but he has been doing it longer than anyone. Not cheap but good.

LOL... only for September. He didn't permanently retire. These guys fish all day every summer and they just need a break.

He's worth taking a trip with in October. Doesn't help you much I guess since you want to go now... Anyway.

I'm sure he was just super tired. He'll be back at it in October. He's one of the best on the upper gulf coast. Give him a shout in October.

I called steve hillman and a couple of other people, but they were all booked up for the weekend that I was looking for. I ended up booking up with Capt Ron from 2 Fish Aholics. We had a great conversation on the phone and he sounded like a nice guy. I guess it is too late to see if anyone has any feedback on him, but time was running out to find a guide. Fingers crossed!!! Thanks to all of you for your input and help.

If you head down to Rockport \ Port A, stay away from Pirates of the Bay.
