I am thinking about taking my family to spend Thanksgiving week in Bolivar Peninsula. How is blue crabing at that time of the year?

Don't know about there, but I've been to Matagorda in November and didn't see many in my traps.

Well, you'll have to fight the "Houston" and "Snow Bird" crowds so you better get there early! Maybe Corpus is better for crabbing than Rollover. The crowds are stupendous!

"Follow me and I will make thee a fisher of men!" Bust open my nets LORD!!! because, I am a wishing I was a fishing!!

might be a bit too cool for crabbing. prime time is usually May and June, just before and during the spawn.

I just got back from Bolivar Peninsula (Rollover Pass, Crystal Beach) and caught lots of blue crab using traps and strings with a net. Try the bay side of the Peninsula anywhere you can get to it. Like one said, you should avoid Rollover in the cold months with the crowds of people looking for flounder. There are some waterways coming from the bay and channels that will have many crab. Try one of the side roads going to the bay. Starting from the ferry all the way to rollover there are many side roads. Some lead to nowhere and others hit some water. You have to explore! There is a bridge close to ferry that used to hold lots of flounder and it was called "broken bridge" until they fixed it. Unfortunately the locals said the flounder are not as abundant as they were before they fixed the bridge but you may find some crabs there as well. I did. You may find a nice secluded spot away from others and catch a bunch!!!
