So I moved to New Boston TX (20 miles west of Texarkana) almost two years ago from Victoria and my surf fishing itch has become uncontrollable with only light medical applications of cat fishing and bass fishing. While I was down south I really enjoyed fishing PINS because I could drive down past the 30 mile marker or so and fish for a couple of days and maybe see a handful of people. Now that PINS is almost 14 hours away I would like to find somewhere closer to go, like the houston/galveston/beaumont/ area (only 6 hours). My questions for you guys and gals is where can I find a similar setup to PINS that far north? The only thing that I can find is McFaddin NWR which would be great but from what I understand you can only fish it during the day? Also can you get to it from High Island (87/124 change) side or do you have to get onto the beach from the Sabine Pass area? Any kind of help yall can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

You can fish from Sea Rim state park you hit it from Sabine pass.
You can also fish the surf at mafaddin beach you hit it from high island.

The McFaddin NWR that has hours restrictions is on the N side of what was / is Hwy 87 aka the beach road. The S side would be the gulf which is what I think you are after, and the McFaddin beach has no hours restrictions. Sea Rim is a state park that boarders McFaddin to the East, does have hours restrictions I believe. Both of these are going to be accessible from Sabine Pass and will be a little more secluded than the High Island beach area. McFaddin also stretches down west to the High Island area but I believe that the motorized vehicle traffic is restricted from this end, known as the Chenier Plains section. Hope some of this helps.

You can get to some secluded beach between high island and Sabine Pass. You will need 4x4, there is no road. There is talk that there are some nudist that set up camp closer to the high island side, so watch yourself.

If you want to try over in Louisiana, there is a bunch of secluded beach over there. After crossing into Louisianan at Sabine Pass, if you take the first turn toward the beach, its about as secluded as you can get. Those bayou's draining into the gulf can be crossed with a 4x4. If you like crabs, those Bayous are full of them.

If you just keep going toward Holly Beach, the road eventually hits the gulf and you have miles of accessible beach, of course its not secluded. They did put rocks out there years ago, just off the beach. Makes some good structure and you can usually tear up the specks around those rocks.

Just some different options. The only bad thing is the $90 dollar fishing license in LA.

What about fishing between high island and crystal beach?

Idk if you can go that far but Bryan beach in Freeport is almost always empty for me when I go there.
