Hey guys,
I'm headed down to the Rockport area with a buddy this weekend to fish Copano Bay and surrounding areas. We'll be fishing from a boat Friday-Sunday. He likes to fish live bait. I'm not against it but would like to also fish artificials as much as possible. I've traditionally relied on Gulp Shrimp and SW Bass Assasins in normal conditions but I'm a bit concerned about water color and all the fresh water in the bay systems right now.
Can anyone offer some tips or suggestions for lures in the area?
Any suggestions on types of water/features to fish with the bays are full like they are right now?
Thanks!

The water in that area is likely goin to be near drinkable. You may want to look into going further south.
Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

That's what I'm afraid of. The house is in Holiday Beach on a canal so there is a very strong convenient factor in play when fishing Copano Bay.
In your opinion, how far is 'further south'?

We received about 2" of rain today.
Trout don't disappear overnight.
One of the biggest trout I've caught was Copano Bay in 2' of water over grass beds in Turtle Pen area after a big rain and we were after big reds.
After a good rain like we have had this year, I've been doing good on trout in areas where there is deep shell or reefs close to a good mix of fresh and salt H2O mixing together and thereby increasing the oxygen level of the water.

Well, fished all day Friday and Saturday (with exception to the huge storm that blew through on Friday).
Clean enough water could be found in St. Charles and Copano if you went looking for it. Parts of Copano were the dirtiest water I've ever seen in the bay system...a deep/dark chocolate brown. We fished with live shrimp under corks and were well rewarded. It seemed we could do no wrong. We fished grass lines, points, reef, and sand and landed endless keeper black drum and endless 18-19" rat reds along with some huge sheepshead here and there. The keeper reds were few and far between, however.
Largest fish of the trip was a 32" redfish found over sand in Copano. Caught it on my 7' St. Croix Avid MF bass rod and Stradic 3000+ with 10# Sufix braid. Made for a great fight.
Overall great weekend of fishing.

Good report XLT_66 !!!
I've been doing good on the trout over shell, may go do some red fishing Wed. or Thurs.
BTW, those rat reds will be keepers in a couple of months or close to it, ... they grow fast.
