Headed to Calcasieu in Sept for the first time. Gonna stay at the Golden Nugget and pack in as much fishing, golf and gambling as we can in two days. I've heard how legendary Calcasieu can be, has anyone ever fished there in September and has anyone stayed at the Nugget? I'm pretty fired up and ready to get on some of those big trout and reds!

Fished there last Oct. for the first time and had a blast! Want to go back soon. Live shrimp and artificals work well!

One of my favorite places to fish. Sept should be good. You want the wind to be light. Windy makes it more difficult. If you get a lot of fresh water that can push the fish South. It's a pretty easy place to fish when things are right. If there are some Birds picking that always helps locate the fish. Usually you can throw your favorite tout on a jig head. I either throw glow, chicken on a chain or morning glory. Sometimes you need to fish shrimp under a popping cork to make it easy.

If the wind blows it's a different story. Much harder to catch them then without lake knowledge. Not many places to hide from the normal wind directions.

You can usually tell where the fish are by the direction the guide boats are headed. If they all head south you head south. North you head north. Everywhere you can catch them all over. Not saying to fish on top of them. Just be aware which direction they are headed. The fish locate in different areas due to the amount of fresh water and where the bait is.
