Gigging flounder can be fun, especially for or with the young anglers.

But, to me, it is really cool to catch them on a rod n' reel because you get to see them swim in their own unique way.

There are some wade fishing locations that you can actually target flounder for fishing with a rod n' reel, ... and you may catch a few redfish as well.

Use a gig, you can get one at Academy for less than $10. Find a good sandy shallow area no deeper than knee deep. Take a light source with you, because you need to go at night. Some people like to take battery powered flood lights, but I've always used just a coleman lantern. At that point it's all fun. You just wade around until you see something. Oh, you will also need a stringer for any keepers you manage to snag. It's a lot of fun.

ya get a gig at academy. The reason you go at night is cuz they think at night you cant see them. as for day you would not do very good cuz they get spooked easier. hooked

I haven't been gigging in many years (living in Ft Worth I only get down to Rockport once or twice a year) but remember that we always figured that on really dark nights the flounder would be in shallow water and lay deeper under the moon. But, my biggest ever was taken under a full moon in mere inches of water. I think that was also the night I almost stepped on a wash-tub sized stingray.

You can gig as far as I know all year. The limit is 5 every month exept November where it is 2.

Had my first flounder gigging trip a couple of months ago. Great experience and a lot of fun, the guides eyes were a lot better than mine to say the least. OMG There were several times where he literally had to take the gig and place it over the top of the fish and tell me to stick them. In my defense, the water was a little murky with some ripples from a stiff wind even behind cape valero.
