Hello All, I make the trip to Port Aransas a couple of times a year and do a little bit of fishing there but was wondering if anyone had any advice on the closest place to go to fish saltwater if I'm coming from Fort Worth. I am looking to take the kayak and fish some but not drive for 6-7 hours. I'm just looking for what I call bay fishing (I don't know if that's the right term) like I do in Port A. I basically put in at a cut there and paddle around and catch reds, specs and anything else that bites. Any advice on places to go for that kind of fishing that would be easier to make a day trip out of would be appreciated.
Thank you

From Fort Worth, this is going to sound crazy but do the geography, Sargent (East Matty) or Port O' Connor are as close to you as anything. You might think it would be Galveston but it's not.

Do you know, that I've never noticed that. Galveston is about 15-20 miles closer, but the driving time is almost exactly the same. As a bonus, driving to POC completely avoids Houston!!

On Goggle maps, the drive time to Surfside, Palacios, and Sargent are all just a few minutes over 5 hours from Fort Worth center. Anahuac is listed as 4 hours and 32 minutes.
Port O' Connor is 5 hours 39 minutes Seadrift is 5:25 Matagorda 5:25 Rockport 5:54
The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge(Salt Lake) is 5:01 Ramp at ICW and 2917 at Mouth of San Bernard 5:07 Ramp at Salt Grass Bait at Freeport 4:58
The three ramps are ones I commonly launch my kayak from for the fish you mentioned.

I'd make the drive to Indianola, unless you want nice accommodations. Not much there, but fishing Powderhorn is like fishing a giant stock tank with reds in it. Stick to the shoreline and fish under the overhanging trees. You can park next to the LaSalle statue, hop the parking rail and launch your 'yak. I've caught some really nice reds right there, within 30 feet of the truck, just casting under the willows. When you're through you can go up to the store for a cold beer and a good burger, even toss out a surf rod into the cut, if you want, that's about $5 for a fishing pass, though.

I appreciate the replies. I'm hoping to make a trip when it cools down a little. I'll probably try to hit all of the above
