Sounds like a guide would be your best bet. Plenty of water access, beach, bay, piers, jetties boat launches.

I did pretty good for a city boy at San Luis pass yesterday. Caught several kinds of fish. Black drum, trout, sheepshead, sting ray,a shark and flounder. 1 ounce of weight kept me from drifting. Used cut mullet and frozen shrimp for bait. Get off of Sea Wall dr before the toll bridge and you can drive all the way to the pass. I fished on the bay side of the bridge but I'm not sure it matters.

I fished Galveston Thursday in a little inlet off of the bay side. I think locals call it "Crash Cove" and it is just to the west of the airport landing strip. It was adjacent to a golf course.
Lots of fun, 9 feet water depth where we were, places to launch boats/kayaks, parking, too.
We caught trout and drum but were fishing stationary anchored out owing to being in a wobbly canoe. If one were moving around back in there, homes surround about half of the 5 or so acres of water in there, so plenty of docks to pitch and skip around.
And, a short trip around the "corner" would put you facing the bridge coming in to Galveston with tons of access, then, to other spots noted by the regulars down there as being great areas to fish.

Crash Basin is what you are referring to

Crash Basin is what you are referring to Ah! That is it, Bayou Burner. Thanks! Someone on another kayak site asked where it was and I showed an overhead of it also mentioning since I have nothing to compare to, I could only say we caught fish in there and had fun. Below: What of this long sliver of water off the east end of the island sort of back from the tip of the island? I saw one solo fisherman in there, then later as we were checking out after a vacation, three yellow yaks, two were tandems, out for what looked like a "water stroll" as I don't think they were fishing. Anyway it looked like sort of a protected area from wave and winds. Nice, peaceful. Is this a good area to fish? Got the bug and bad . . . I'm going to definitely add saltwater to my "range" as I have been exclusively freshwater. Did I post this here already? Pic below (inverted on its side), this of the east side of the island I am asking about. Brad

it can be during the right time of year.. there's been some pigs caught there over the years.
Behind San Luis pass and the Christmas bay south shoreline are good places. as well as mosquito point this time of year.
