Going back on the 15th for round 2. We fished the beach about 1/2 down from bob hall last month. Thought about trying this place this trip. Is there any tips or advice on how to fish it? Bait, lures, and can i use my bass rods. Thanks for any info. And i will post results.

Packery is not that difficult to fish if you have any surf/jetty fishing experience. If you don't then you need to have someone teach you or hire a guide. What are u trying to catch? Most bass reels will work but some rods will not, longer casts are mandatory. If you are fishing for trout, keeper reds, Spanish macks, etc your good on tackle. It really seems easy but its not. But if you want to soak a shrimp on the bottom and catch 100 hardheads,25 whiting, 2 sheaphead, and possibly 1 big redfish or drum in one day then you are in the right place. have fun

I fish Packery jetties frequently. Fished the N Jetty today. Sheepshead are biting right now fishing live shrimp under a cork up near the rocks, but who knows by the time you arrive. I like fishing the surf side for trout when the water is green and the wave heights are less than 2ft. Live shrimp or Gulp shrimp under a popping cork is good, but I normally toss soft plastics like H&H Cocahoes placed on 1/8 oz jig heads worked slowly along the bottom, or hard twitch baits such as Mirrolures, or Rapala XRaps. Spoons, and topwater lures such as Spooks or Skitterwalks walking the dog can produce as well. I will also fish the same baits in the channel just down from the jetties for trout. Soft plastics can be productive for flounder in the channel further down a bit away from the jetty rocks along the drop off to deeper water as well. These lures will also get bit by Spanish Mackeral, Redfish, Bluefish, Skipjack and Jack Crevalle when conditions are favorable. Your bass rods will work just fine although you may get spooled if you have a big Jack on a light bass rig. I know this from personal experience. blush

If the water is clear, you will be able to see much of the underwater rock structure, but otherwise, be prepared to hang up at times. Keep an eye on your line and when you are reeling in, keep your rod tip held very high and reel fast to get your rig up over the underwater rocks. And beware the wet moss on the granite boulders. It is slick, slick, slick. Granite is extremely unforgiving when falling on it. I know this from personal experience as well.
