Looking for a new reel just haven't quite found the one that I absolutely fell in love with. I just wanna hear some other thoughts of what brand I should go with less than 150$ and that's not going to break within a year.

for about a hundred bucks, I would go with a penn battle 3000. they are a little on the heavy side but are pretty tough reels. I have a couple that have been fished for 4 years and I have taken pretty poor care of them but they are still spinning. and they have a gasket on the spool so you don't need backing if youre going to run braid

Shimano Stradic 4000F
Awesome spinning reel that you can use for the bay or the surf, ...
It'll take a dunking and keep on chunking !

I've got a fleet of reels, all manners of brands. Without a doubt the okuma avenger has held up the best, Lews the worst. All my reels get rinsed and lubed every trip, they all need care when fishing in the brine.

Kind of surprising to see the Okuma Avenger being thrown out there. I bought two of them with the bait runner feature last year for catfishing, and have been pretty impressed so far. They seem like solid reels for their price point.
I do have a couple of Battles too, and can't say anything bad about them.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I'm really happy and impressed with my H20 motive mv-400. Super lightweight and its a 4000 series with 35lb of drag over 300 yards of 20lb braid fits. Carbon fiber and graphite with a completely sealed drag. Pair it with a light rod and ive pitched a 1/8oz bait pretty damn far all day. It's about 80 bucks but i got mine on clearence for half of that. I bought a bunch or reels and returned them for various reasons. I liked the stradic but when i switched the lever to the left side it kept coming lose after every cast but if you dont plan on moving the lever it should do you good. Just bought okuma lefty baitcaster and 6000 spinning the baitcaster felt good but i havent had a chance to throw the big boy yet. As long as you look for corrosion resistance materials and completely sealed any brand should work well.

Those white ones are the ones i got on super sale at Dicks. I read a review that they dont hold up to salt well. Glad to know that wasn't the actual case.

UPDATE: Took it back to Academy for a full refund, after using twice in surf (not dunking and reeling) and rinsing and oiling immediately after returning home the gears were already staring to tighten up. could almost feel a flat spot in them when reeling like it was rolling over a bump. Looking at replacing with a Shimano Stradic FJ.

Love my stradic 2500. Have had it for 7-8 years and I use it regularly

Very hard to beat the Shimanos. I fish them exclusively now. I like what Grinder had to say.

Used stradics and Okuma (cheap reels) and Daiwa (mid tier reels) this whole summer. The daiwa reels lasted all summer and are now on the last leg. The Okuma 25 sized reels do not have the drag power for reds ( Atleast the ones I bought) The Stradics do not get used much but they are on the 3rd year. I have been using penn reels for big spinners and they are killer. The spinfisher V is what we will be using next year.
