1. What is recommended speed for trolling for kings?

2. How far down do you want to keep your ribbon fish?

3. Do you have to use a weight to keep your ribbon fish down? It would seem to me that trolling would drag your bait at the surface?

Thanks!

1. I catch them regularly trolling 3-4 mph.

2. Ribbon depth is dependent upon where I am seeing fish. I do lots of fishing within 6 miles of shore and most of my fish are caught around 20ft down. I do not troll my ribbons, I drift them and usually do not use any weight but if I do, they weights are tiny. Usually, no weight.
I troll jerk baits and they are very productive. Steel is a must.

Hey dude, i've been catching kings for like 20 years. I drift mostly just like PiePuncher. You can get kings right off the jetty or 40 offshore. If you troll ribbonfish without downriggers they will float up, weight or not. I usually drift one pole deep, one mid, and two surface/ish. When the fishing is hot, you can free troll shallow water around rigs, and shrimpers. No doubt. If you wanna troll, get deep diving lures. Big ones
