Good morning fellow TFFers. Quick question for all you salt water guys. I have a group of non fisherman that I am taking fishing for a co-worker. It's his sons 17th birthday and he wanted to go fishing, so my co-worker, his 18 year old son, 3 16 year olds and myself are gonna be on the water at first light Sunday morning. Surfside and Texas City are about the same distance from us. Where would you take this group? I am very experienced in the salt,(bay and surf)but the other 5 have never fished before. Already got them all set up with gear - spinning rods, popping corks, fish finder rigs - just basic stuff. I need to put them on some fish, be it whiting, trout, anything that will fry up really. Where would you go? I always seem to do well in the surf and two trips to the dike have resulted in about 6 trout total with about a thousand little croakers and hardheads. My only issue with Surfside is the fact two of the vehicles going are sedans (I have a 4x4 Xterra so pulling them out if stuck is an option) and the fact of newbies dealing with the waves. I know the surf is supposed to be very minimal Sunday. Let me know what y'all think. Thanks in advance.

IMO: Go to Surfside if you're taking kids.

I took my son there a few weeks ago.
Whenever he got bored, he'll just be swimming or playing in the sand.
Then he'll be back out in the water with his rod/reel less than an hour later.

Using dead-bait on Carolina rigs, we caught almost 2 dozen between me and him. Black Drums, Reds, Whitings, Croakers.

As long as you pay attention to the tides, and not drive too close to the water, you should be good.
Plus there's lots of nice folks there willing to give you a hand.

Thanks for the advice. I fish surfside about once a month year round. Ease of drive Dike wins out hands down but I love fishing the surf. Last time I was down the sand was pretty soft which is why I was worried about the cars getting stuck. I've always done pretty well down there. Don't think I'll lhave to worry about them getting bored and swimming since they are all over the age of 16.

And I see we are both in Katy. If you ever want to hook up on a trip down let me know.
