Going to be at Galveston state park for a week. Have very little experience with saltwater, definetly can not afford guided trip. So any advice would be appreciated. Also I saw there was a few small freshwater ponds in the state park. Are they worth messing trying? I appreciate any info.

Surf fishing around there is usually good. You can also fish bay side and the freshwater ponds, if you want. Me, I'm always in the surf. cool

Fish saltwater while down there, surf fishing or from the piers. 91st street pier on the sea wall is $12.00 a person and you can buy bait and anything else you may need.

Ok fished today and caught several smaller speckled trout, I do have a small two man boat with trolling motor, fished marshes around the state park. I would really love to catch a redfish while I am down here, size isn't an issue. Any areas to suggest that I could access with two man boat?

Dana Cove is not far from there, give that a try.
