I'm inn padre for a couple days on vacation with my fiancé. I'm advanced bass fisherman trying to catch a few fish apparently these saltwater fish don't like bass tackle. I have a condo on the bay inn a canal. I have found a few under water lights with fish all inn them but I can't get a bite with bass baits. I see shrimp poping inn the light which would be a obvious start to a bait but I figured you guys would tell me a few tricks. I want my fiancé to have some fun catching some fish and also of course I want to catch a big one haha. I'm on a tight budget what do I do guys?

Use live shrimp free lined or under a float under the lights. You will need a bucket with an aerator to keep them alive. If you are in Corpus there is an Academy not far from you. If you have any white flukes you might try those as well.

Common carp 26
Goldfish 9.78lb
Mirror Koi 14lb
Koi 16lb
Channel Catfish 26lbs
Blue Cat 30lb
Bass 9.5lb

they will absolutely hit bass tackle. Do you have a little zara spook. or spook junior. That's just about all we throw. Its really all about being where the fish are and not so much if it's a bass lure or not. One of the best soft plastics for the coast are the Bass Assasins.

If you don't catch a couple in a light,... just keep moving until you do. Or like KQT said use a live free lined shrimp. You see, there is tons of bait in those lights... hard to get them to eat a lure in those conditions. It's doable, but you're competing with tons of live food.

A small 2 - 3 inch sliver twitch bait like a yo-zuri crystal flash or something similar will do pretty well. Dart it eratically and make it lure injured. If you don't get hit, move to the next light. Fish the outer edges of the light as well.

Thanks for the advice guys I will give it a shot. I ended up catching a small red on a mini swim bait type bait. They haven't been interested inn much else. How about during the day? Where is the best place to try fishing front the bank?

Well, if you don't want to get wet by wade fishing, the best places around N Padre are the Packery jetties, or the Fish Pass jetties on nearby Mustang Island. They can both produce big trout and redfish if the bite is on. You can toss shrimp tail jigs or swim baits, or my favorite, a Johnson Sprite silver or gold spoon in 1/2 or 3/8 oz sizes. Fishing live finger mullet off the end of the jetty can produce bull redfish, Jack Crevalle and even King Mackeral among others.
