I'm using a GoPro knock off, and I'm not happy with the audio that I get just from the camera. If the wind is blowing, everything is virtually impossible to hear. I'm looking to grab audio from myself (in the back of the boat) and my partner (in the front). I'm using one cam on my chest and one located on the passenger console. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Are you on a certain budget? You could figure something out to be the most ideal but might be kinda pricey. Let me know what you're able to spend and I can probably guide you down the right path.

This mic is what I use. It's cheap and got good reviews. I like it.

If the quality would be good enough, I'd be willing to spend close to a hundred, but I'd really like to keep it on the downside. My biggest concern is the wind at this point.

You can skip to minute 1 to see what I'm dealing with. Granted, the winds were extremely high, but I have a similar problem even when the winds are around 10 mph. Also, getting audio from the back and front of the boat seems to be an issue.

Thanks.

Most waterproof and low-end cameras have serious issues with sound recording and background noise, wind being the most common problem for us outdoor folks. Unless you can remote to a better mic this will always be the case. You might try using a separate device for recording sound and then marrying the video with audio in post production.

I shoot a Canon Powershot that has dual stereo pickups built in but no remote mic capabilities. I have made a simple "wind filter" with a BandAid over the mics on top of the camera. This takes the roar out of the wind noise but doesn't eliminate the problem altogether. I shoot 99% of everything free hand with the camera strapped to my chest. This configuration puts the camera mic just under my chin which is great for narrating what the viewer is seeing.

Just get a gopro, i know its not cheap, but when it comes to videos you want the best quality both video and audio. I use a mic for my gopro for better sound and to minimize the wind noise. If im watching videos of whatever on youtube and video/ and or audio sucks I stop watching....
