We were drift fishing the main lake yesterday and came across the pre spawn area for whites. It was loaded with whites. They are staging up for the spawn run. Have ya'll been doing any good up the river yet?

I was at the steps near circleville Monday 1-18-16 until someone started shooting near us. About noon, we heard 3 gunshots fired rapidly. we got spooked and decided to leave. as we were leaving we heard another 2 shots even closer. as we were approaching the steps to go up, we turned and looked. we saw two men walking across the river, in the woods, wearing hunter orange vests. they were across from the steps walking upstream. We didn't want to catch a stray bullet, so we left.

We didn't catch anything. I was using a fly, my wife was using shiner minnows. It was a nice day. the water looked good. The whites should start moving once the water warms a little? I'll be back soon. I took a couple of pics. one near the steps looking at the spot the fly fishermen gather at. and one looking upstream from the steps. It should be a good year.

tight lines!

The only thing they should be shooting is a shotgun.

I like fishing this place even if the fish are smaller. I can't wiat for these guys to get going.

Hog hunters are using bows and cross bows. You are right, they are smaller but fun to catch.

Appreciate any info.

I had an opportunity to drop by the river this afternoon. Water flow is strong and man did the floods change things up. I like what I am seeing though. The water is super clear and I did catch two whites, two crappie and two blacks. Everything I caught were under size fish though. But that's not to bad for about twenty minutes on the shoreline when I only went down there to check out the conditions of the river. But there was no way could I go without my rod to check the bite as well.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the report fishtx. LOL at jsinn01.

It is gorgeous down there. I can never go into the river bottom without a fishing pole or fly rod. Never know what one may catch. I was hoping to hear more fish being caught.

How about people? were there many there? Id imagine that place is beginning to crawl.

tight lines.

Here's something I have done on my poles to have a quick and easy way to measure my fish. Hopefully some of you will do this as well and it will stop you from getting a fine for keeping under size fish. I put a ten inch mark on my fishing pole with some tape. Measure up the pole from the cork handle and put a ten inch mark with tape, easy to do and it will be an easy and quick way to measure your fish when you catch one as well. No more guessing the size and it will prevent you from having to pay a huge fine. The game warden doesnt care if you know the law or not, they will still give you a ticket. It is every anglers obligation to know the rules and regulations, so in the case, stupidity on your part will not win you over and you will still receive a fine for every fish you have that is illegal. So please people, put a reference mark on your pole. Not to many anglers are going to carry a measuring device with them, but having a reference mark on your pole is so easy to do when your at home with the proper tools to do it with. This mark will stay on your pole for the rest of the year. Electoral tape works great. I have seen people scribe a mark on their pole, but personally, I would not think of doing this to any of mine because it will cause some damage to the integrity of the pole, possible snapping it into under while under pressure.
The best tape I have found to use is what they call foil tape, or AC duct tape. It is very thin and the adhesive on this tape is extremely strong and the end never peals up. These tapes Ive put on my rods have been on there for several years now. But electoral tape works just fine, anything for a reference mark. Finger nail polish works too. There are different things you can use, just be smart and put one on your pole.
