I've heard that there are holdover trout that stay in the colder water just below Canyon Lake Dam, and although fishing teaches us patience I had the day off and wanted to fish. I guess there's a reason fishing rhymes with wishing, and after about three hours I decided to change location and head further down the river to Cypress Bend Park, where I hooked a few Redbreast within minutes of getting the line wet. This one got foul hooked just under the lip. I'm new to fishing the Guadalupe river, and this was the first bass I've caught here. I've caught quite a few largemouths over the years, but never had the opportunity to catch a smallmouth or a Guadalupe bass, at least not until today. No keepers, but a good day fishing.

Nice thing about that current. They all fight like 5 pounders.

Nice post. Love fishing the Guadalupe! It's such a beautiful river, I grew up in Port Neches, and the Neches is definitely not as scenic! Nice thing about that current. They all fight like 5 pounders. Lol! You're right, especially with a light spinning rig.
