Looking to take my boys for some night fishing for carp. Curious if there are any fishing piers lit up at night that are decent for carp? I have tried the Lewisville barge but some of the crappie guys don't like two 7 year old boys walking around the barge much.

I was going to suggest the Lewisville Barge, don't worry about the regulars imop. Pay and have some fun. Now..I will say you won't need more than 1 rod, take turns between the boys, and make sure the gear is tough enough to bring them up fairly quick so they don't get tangled, wrapped around dock poles, etc.

Another option is to fish pretty much anywhere at Joe Pool Lake. Lynn Creek Marina allows you to fish outside their marina and you can literally feed the 100s (1000s??) of Carp right there by the marina, very cool sight to see. Again..action will be fast, you really don't need more than 1 rod. Throw out a few cans of sweet corn to bring them in, throw a few on a hook and game on. Pretty much guaranteed to catch an 8-10lb fish in a matter of minutes out there. lol.. Have fun!

^^^ YES! I would suggest calling them first to make sure they are open. I would also fish from 5:00pm on. Seriously... this is THE place to catch Carp for bait (I know, some purist hate me for saying this..), but I always go here a few times a year to catch carp for cut bait. (The only place I will catch Carp for bait btw). This lake is simply OVER RUN with Carp. Alot of people disagree with me, but I think if we could somehow drastically limit the number of Carp at Joe Pool that place could be a home for some serious lunkers. There's some decent fish there, but I'd guess that 90% of the Carp are 12lbs or less. Perfect size for light tackle btw, so much fun to catch!

We did a Wild Carp Club of North Texas event at the state park on joe pool 3 or 4 years ago, and i believe we caught 10 fish that day, all very small. several in the 1-2 lb range.

Throwback video from the event

First off, cool video thx for sharing! But...wow..only 10 fish, and several in the under 5lb range, I've never caught a carp that small (1-3 lbs). I've always wondered why it seems so hard to catch small carp. Have you ever been to Lynn Creek Marina? They sell fish food and you can feed the massess of Carp that are there. Some easily in the 10lb+ range. I was going to fish there next month, I better call and make sure they still allow peeps to bank fish around the marina. I just checked their website and I didn't see any mention of it now. hmm..

I called Lynn Creek Marina and they still allow people to fish the marina, walkways, etc. It cost $5.00 per angler and they close @ 10:00pm. And yep...they said the Carp are still all over the marina. wink

How bad are the ducks at the marina? I'm thinking of entertaining my son with the carp.

Yea, that was an awfully tough day. I fished 3 events that season. joe pool, bardwell, and grapevine. At bardwell and grapevine i caught well over 10 fish by myself at each of those events with the other 6-7 guys doing the same. That was just a very bad day on pool.
