My boy & I are looking to go towards the hill country to fish and sleep in a hammock. Any ideas. Just some son & dad weekend. Thanks.

Probably waay booked up but colorado bend, pedernales falls, bastrop, somerville are all fairly close. Somerville will have sites I'm sure. There is a campground I have looked at on the guadalupe above canyon lake called r & n campgrounds that look decent. It's close to the water, depending on level maybe some whitebass.

I second the Colorado Bend option. Most likely the state park is booked, but there are some very nice private campgrounds upstream from there. Not really too many better places to spend a day fishing.

check out "The Dam Camp" it's only about 45 minutes from Austin and it's pretty new so it probably has availability. They have camping and Kayak rentals. it is on the Guadalupe River just below the McQueeney Dam on Lake Placid.
