Scouted one of my favorite creeks today, haven't fished it much since it was flooded, and I MEAN FLOODED, for 6 months. As I suspected the drawdown left a huge variety of species in the clear water creek, rather than motivating them to return to the mostly murky river.

Walking the bank, traveling light(UL rig and jig/rooster tail box) set out to see what was what!

Didn't take long, First cast, an undersized hybrid. You may think, no big deal. But try fighting one on a 5 ft UL rod with 6 lb. test, on a sixth oz rooster tail. More fun could not be had! Next cast, a 14 inch sandie, not shabby by anyone's standards! Next several casts produce several dink black bass, several fair to middlin bluegills and green sunfish. Then a redear, rare for this part of the world. Couple of spotted bass, then moving upstream, several decent, not giant, but for a creek, very respectable black bass. Oh and one pesky, native "fishing buddy", You guys go out and getcha some. The bite is on! Only spent about an hour and a half casting, more walking than casting, it was a glorious day!

My "resident" fishing buddy for a few minutes, a small cottonmouth, more curious than anything, swam right up to me, diamond shaped head held high, thick almost black body floating on surface, tongue flashing out a couple of times, guess he didn't like my smell, so he turned around and swam back across the creek, pretty much same way he came towards me.

Went back late wednesday afternoon, still caught a bunch, bass, bream, but no sandies or hybrids today. Only one noteworthy largemouth. They liked the white rooster today! My fishing buddy from tuesday was nowhere to be found.

Can't wait till it stays cold for awhile.
Fishing will be more fun without sweating & no snakes.

Was on a creek the other day in my kayak and saw 3 "fishing buddies" never been bothered by them, but I keep my distance and move along when they are around. I figure they are probably just fishing too, besides they were in that spot first most likely. smile
