I was headed up to Cabela's in Allen yesterday, and as I was driving up Murphy Rd., I saw this little pond next to Murphy City Hall, which looked like a typical, unimpressive little "fishbowl" pond. Except there were LOTS of people fishing it--like elbow to elbow, just about. It wasn't a bunch of families out there, so I don't think it was a kid fish type event. Seems like the only other explanations are either that it was recently stocked, or there was some kind of bank fishing tournament. But what a weird spot to have a tournament. Anybody have any info on this? Did I just miss the memo?

Thanks for the info, y'all. Is that normally a good spot to fish, regardless of stocking?

Its got some decent bass in it. And I here it has some decent size catfish but I've never personally caught one. But its a high pressure spot for sure. Lots of people fish there all year. The bass are very lure shy and spook easy. They stocked trout there for like the last 3 years I think now.

They had a rainbow trout tournament this past weekend. TPWD stocked the pond, and the City of Murphy held a tournament for the children (18 and under). It was a nice event, but not necessarily the best fishing location. I've lived in Murphy since '03 and have never seen anyone fish this pond unless it was near stocking time.

People fish the pond every now and then. There is another larger pond behind Murphy city hall at Murphy Central park that has some fish in it as well. I rarely see anyone at Murphy Central Park pond.

I have fished both ponds. They both have fish. I've only fished the central park pond a few times. It has some small bass and sunfish. The city hall pond has some good bass go during the spawn and you'll see them in the shallow clear water. Both ponds get some thick vegetation in the summer that make them a bit difficult to fish. I see people at the city hall pond every weekend during the spring and summer.
