They haven't posted it on their FB page yet!! JK.
Typically once the main lake water temps dip below 55 the shad will start moving into the creeks/river channels to find warmer water. This time of the year the shad are already in creeks but in a holding pattern...

Ah come on! Think that they could at least tweet when they plan to move up WRC since so many people are interested in their whereabouts. I'm sure somebody will post up soon as the water temps drop a few more degrees.

Urban creek i fished yesterday was thick with 6-8 inch gizzard shad! I snagged about 20-30 of em with my rooster tail! Gave them to a fishing buddy. He was putting them in a freezer bag and was very happy! He said he now had a good starter kit on winter catfish bait. God do those things stink! I had to use two soaps and a good strong hand lotion to get the stench out.
They are starting to move, i guess, and from my past experiences, awful early this season. The cormorants were feasting on them as well, which is good, since they left at least for yesterday, the crappie and bass alone.
For those of you that jon boat or kayak the Elm Fork this time of year for big cats, The "cormorant trees" along Riverside drive in Las Colinas are snow white streaked already, and the branches on the trees are dark with hundreds of cormorants! Saw it yesterday as i passed by.
Also saw, believe it or not, an alligator about 6-7 ft long casually cruising across the river, heading towards that gravel pit behind the gun range. The park is closed due to high water(water is back within banks), debris, mud and general yuckiness. Guess they have to get the city or the TRA to get in there and clean it up. I wanted to stop and get a pic, but could not get in the park. Could clearly see it from the road, but traffic was too heavy to stop anywhere.

Lovfldx....use a mixture of dawn dish soap and toothpaste on your hands...one wash should do the trick.

Alligator?! How many others have seen one down there? Does that affect your mindset? If I saw one I would be hesitant to stand near the bank.

Years ago, one floated from the river into the las colinas canals, several photos of it back then, and the local tv stations had a field day with it, video and very excited reporting. When i was younger, my dad and I found big mud sink holes, complete with tracks in the mud, bull alligators make in the summer when they are in the mood for love and bellow a deep gutteral sound to attract the fairer of the species. When I was younger my dad and I used to fish parson slough over in Seagoville, right in the Belt Line/Simonds road area, which is now a palmetto/alligator nature preserve. We would see them sunning themselves on fallen trees in the water, more cool than scary. Anyway, there he was, and i just could not find a place to get off the street and go get a pic, truly disappointing. He was in the middle of the river, and in that area the river is several hundred yards wide so no real danger. So cool though! About a year ago, i was warned by 2 Dallas Police as i was about to descend into Bachman Creek, between Harry Hines and 35(creek flows on to the Elm Fork), that another police officer had positively identified an alligator in the creek bottoms that he estimated to be in the 7-8 ft range, so they are not common, but not that rare. I did find evidence of a large animal eating other animals down there, but no tracks to id the guilty party. Just another part of nature that sometimes you get lucky enough to witness. Gotta love it!
