I am so new to fly fishing that my rod won't even be here until UPS comes by my house today. I have placed a couple large orders of fly tying material and components, but I am itching to tie and don't want to wait. I was wondering what kind of redneck ingenuity some of y'all have come up with. I was hoping that maybe a few would show off what they took and turned into a working fly or bait.

Craft foam from hobby lobby, cheaper than what you buy from the fly shops, for foam bugs. Flip flops or foam ear plugs for poppers. Spinner bait skirts for leg material on poppers, and bugs. Dog hair if you have one. Can use it for streamers or throw it in a coffee grinder and make your own dubbing. I don't do it, but you can also use bait holder hooks, just straighten them out in the vise before you start to tie on the materials. Craft fur, yarns, etc... from Hobby lobby, Michael's etc... just wonder the isles and if you think you may be able to use it, try it out. If it doesn't work, try something else.

I love the duct tape poppers. I have glued some kitchen foil before, but never duct tape. I did buy some bait holder and Aberdeen hooks last week to practice on. My best repurpose so far was from a broken elastic cord off one of my work's laptop stylus. I used it for body material. I tied it in and then use some Hard as Nails over it to hold it in place. I need to try another one with some wire wraps around it.
