I was able to tie with the "Roadkill Roundtable" yesterday at the DFW Bass Pro and I learned a new fly.

If you're in the DFW area and have never taken your vise and tied with this group, you are missing a great opportunity. This is a highly skilled group of fly tyers. Saturday mornings is a bring your vise and tie whatever you want from 10 to about 1. But once a week they host a fly tying class where they tie a different pattern each week. Anyone is welcome to join them.

Dutch showed me how to tie a "Rusty Rat" yesterday.

Today, I tied another fly in the Rat series before I forget everything I learned yesterday. laugh Here's a "Blue Rat". I don't have all of the right materials, but I got close.

A rainy day was a good time to try again. Proper proportions are still challenging me with this style of tying. smile

Looks good Rex! My wife has a TFO CFR 5wt. Do you fish any of these salmon flies that you are tying up? Bet they would work on the Bass and larger Gills really well.

Thanks. I haven't had a chance to fish them very much yet. I keep forgetting to put them in my fly box, but I agree with you I think they would work on bass and gills. The only concern I have is that they are not weighted. With the upturned eye they sink beautifully, nice and level, but they sink slow compared to most of my other bass flies. I haven't figured out how to fish with them yet. I think they would be killer during spawn when something slow can work very well, but when the fish are deeper, I'm thinking I may try them as a dropper off of something like a clouser that will pull them down faster.

Keep in mind that I primarily bass fish in lakes. I have not tried them in moving water yet.
